Marine Lance Cpl. Gregory P. Rund

Colorado Marine died December 11, 2004 Serving our Country in Iraq

Marine Lance Cpl. Gregory P. Rund
21, of Littleton, Colo.; assigned to 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif.; killed Dec. 11 by enemy action in Anbar province, Iraq

LCpl Rund had lived in some hard times in America and kept his focus on how great this country is.

In the year when the Columbine High School football team won the state championship, Greg Rund did not make the game-winning catch in the end zone. He did not make a play-saving block or even a single tackle.
He was there, though - as he always was - suited up near the bench, wearing a jersey that read “110 percent,” all the time knowing that he probably would never be called to play.

The Rocky Mountain News has more on LCpl Rund

My heart felt sympathies go to the family and friends.

From the Halls of Montezuma
To the shores of Tripoli
We fight our country’s battles
In the air on land and sea.
First to fight for right and freedom
And to keep our honor clean;
We are proud to bear the title
Of United States Marines.

Our flag’s unfurled to every breeze
From dawn to setting sun;
We have fought in every clime and place
Where we could take a gun.
In the snow of far-off Northern lands
And in sunny tropic scenes;
You will find us always on the job –
The United States Marines.

Here’s health to you and to our Corps
Which we are proud to serve;
In many a strife we’ve fought for life
And never lost our nerve.
If the Army and the Navy
Ever look on Heaven’s scenes,
They will find the streets are guarded
By United States Marines.

    I worked with Greg on our first tour in the middle east. He was always optimistic, even in the harshist of times. I love him with all my heart, like a brother. I appreciate you commending him. Semper Fi.
