Hate to clean it. love to dirty it.
Aware of the limitations of the essentialy civilian M40, the US Marines tested a variety of bolt-action and semi-automatic weapons before deciding upon a conventional bolt-action rifle. Utilizing the same Rem700 reciever as the M40, the M40A1 has a 26-inch free-floating stainless steel barrel and a fiberglass stock with epoxy filler bu McMillian Gunworks. Fitted with a powerful telecopic sight the M40A1 is accurate out to 1000yds.

The Marines are making kills in iraq with this weapon in Iraq at ranges of 1050 yards, they do however have a new stock on it, the Mcmillian A4, now designated the M40A4, Marines fel greater comfort when shooting out to longer ranges.
