Islam

Dateing Rules

The Diva Feisty throws out the rules on the one night stands.

However, with a second thought I want to throw that crap straight out of the window. There’s a time for thinking and discussing and a time to realize that some things can be over-examined and talked to death.

Just joking, she actually has some good points (about the topic) that attract a mans attention to the subject in hand(s).
She also point out that The Minister of Propaganda has some very good rules about sex blogging…I mean blogging about your sex life, I mean blogging about having sex…damn, dating sucks.

Just go read some good rules when you want to get lucky for a long time.

Oh, and never share the fact that you blog about your sex life. If you do admit that you blog about your sex life, never reveal the actual URL. If you do, you’ll be editing yourself forever

Heros Act

I have been a little remise in following up on this Hero’s Act and went to visit Bill Faith to see where we stand. Basically the Hero’s Act we were blogging about back in November 2004 - February 2005 has been signed into law by President Bush. We know we were looking for more support for the families. This is such a good thing. But the question is why has this not been in the news? Wait, never mind. I already figured that out.

In a nutshell, the HEROES Act, which I blogged about here and in several follow-up posts, is now law, as well as the “Traumatic Injury” Insurance discussed here. (A tip of the hat to William “1stCav” Page for that last link.) We can never do too much, and in my opinion we still aren’t doing enough (What about the Sailor who was killed when the USS San Francisco hit that undersea mountain, for instance?), but at least we’re doing more than we were. It’s a start.

This changes the payout:

The package Bush signed also includes provisions increasing the death benefit for U.S. service members from $12,000 to $100,000; raising the maximum life insurance benefit for service members from $250,000 to $400,000; and authorizing $100,000 payments for troops who lose a limb or suffer some other traumatic injury

.
This is not perfect but it is very good start.

I am going to take this off the side bar but it is in this post if I need it again.

Of Marines & Teufelhunden

This is an older article about the Marines and it is worth reading because it gives a brief history of the Corps and why they are so feared by so many.

Best-selling author Tom Clancy once wrote, “Marines are mystical. They have magic.” It is this same magic, Clancy added, that “may well frighten potential opponents more than the actual violence Marines can generate in combat.”

I don’t know if the Marines are really mystical and magic, but they sure are a fighting force I wouldn’t want be up against. Any enemy should be shaking in their boots when they hear that the Marines have landed.

For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty:

Sergeant First Class Paul R. Smith distinguished himself by acts of gallantry and intrepidity above and beyond the call of duty in action with an armed enemy near Baghdad International Airport, Baghdad, Iraq on 4 April 2003. On that day, Sergeant First Class Smith was engaged in the construction of a prisoner of war holding area when his Task Force was violently attacked by a company-sized enemy force. Realizing the vulnerability of over 100 fellow soldiers, Sergeant First Class Smith quickly organized a hasty defense consisting of two platoons of soldiers, one Bradley Fighting Vehicle and three armored personnel carriers. As the fight developed, Sergeant First Class Smith braved hostile enemy fire to personally engage the enemy with hand grenades and anti-tank weapons, and organized the evacuation of three wounded soldiers from an armored personnel carrier struck by a rocket propelled grenade and a 60mm mortar round. Fearing the enemy would overrun their defenses, Sergeant First Class Smith moved under withering enemy fire to man a .50 caliber machine gun mounted on a damaged armored personnel carrier. In total disregard for his own life, he maintained his exposed position in order to engage the attacking enemy force. During this action, he was mortally wounded. His courageous actions helped defeat the enemy attack, and resulted in as many as 50 enemy soldiers killed, while allowing the safe withdrawal of numerous wounded soldiers. Sergeant First Class Smith’s extraordinary heroism and uncommon valor are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the Third Infantry Division “Rock of the Marne,” and the United States Army.

“hillbilly” bicycle

Michael at A Day in Iraq speaks his mind on the media and the truth.

Michael has an old topic (Up-Armor humvees) that never seems to go away. Doonsbury brought it up again…I don’t know why but here is a small portion of Michael’s rant.

You’ve heard the term “Hillbilly Armor”. I personally think the term sucks. Why make fun of the hillbilly’s. Why not “provisional armor,” or “modified armor,” or “converted armor.” Or how about “appendaged armor,” based on the fact that a few vehicles have had armor appended to them. “Hey, go get that “appendaged armor” humvee ready so we can protect our appendages.” How about improvised? That word seems to be used quite a bit around here. “Hey Michael, we’re taking the “improvised armor” humvee out today.” “Good thinking Sergeant, it will protect us from the improvised explosive devices and the vehicle borne improvised explosive devices.” We could just call it IA, but that acronym is already taken by the Iraqi Army and might confuse some people. “Michael, run over to that IA vehicle and grab some water and MRE’s.” “Sergeant, we both know the IA won’t have any bottled water, and the only thing they’ll have to eat is some pita bread and eggs.” “No, not the Iraqi Army vehicle, the Improvised Armor vehicle.” “Roger Sergeant, I got confused. Why do we have to designate them Improvised Armor vehicles when they do the same thing as any other armored vehicle?” “Well Michael, we wouldn’t want the media back home, who have wrongly determined those vehicles as not worthy of that title, to run a story saying that we were trying to give you any false security.” “Roger Sergeant, God forbid if that ever happened.” This would be better. “Hey Michael, go get that IA vehicle ready to roll, we’re taking it out on a mission today.” “Hell yeah Sergeant, we get to go out in a pick up truck today, that’ll be fun.” “Sorry to ruin your fun Michael, but you know they won’t allow us to go out in anything that isn’t armored.” “Yeah Sergeant, but it sure would be fun to ride around in just a plain, old pick up truck.” Pick up truck, dune buggy, motorcycle, bicycle, whatever, I think a lot of us wouldn’t mind going out in any of those sometime.

And this is how you treat MEN, You tell them the facts, the truth, you don’t try to protect them from the truth. that gets them dead.

It’s nice to know that Biden is worried about my sensitivities. Senator, most of us can handle the truth, so you need not worry about our feelings being hurt.

Michael also has a “hillbilly” bicycle that you need to see the picture of.

Desecration of the Qur’an?

We find some interpretation of how to handle the Qu’ran.:

The classical scholars of Ahl al-Sunnah wa’l Jama`at (the four schools) are unanimous in their interpretation of the above verses that a person has to be spiritually and physically clean (a Muslim in a state of ritual puity, i.e. in wudu) in order to handle the Arabic book of the Quran (mushaf).

I have to wonder if this is what they were talking about as far as the accusations go in Gitmo.

Etiquettes of Reading and Handling the Qur’an al-Kareem

It is unlawful (haram) for someone not in the state of wudu to carry a Qur’an, even by a trap or in a box , or touch it, whether its writing, the spaces between its lines, its margins, binding, the carrying strap attached to it, or the bag or box it is in.

The opinion expressed in Fiqh al-Sunnah that it is permissible to touch the Qur’an without ritual purity is a deviant view contrary to all four schools of jurisprudence (fiqh) that is Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi’i and Hanbali and is impermissible to teach (except to teach that it is deviant).

I wonder if there is a law against talking about how stupid this is?

Open this up for the 37 rules they define in the proper handling of the Qu’ran but the best one is:

It is forbidden to use the Qur’an or any book of Islamic knowledge as a pillow.

Honoring the American Soldier

Tony Perkins, President of Family Research Council wrote this with such grace, that I would rather use his words than my own.

With Memorial Day approaching I recall the words of a fellow veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Father Dennis Edward O’Brien. This U.S. Navy chaplain, who served on Guadalcanal during WWII, wrote: “It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us the freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us the freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who gives us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag.” Father O’Brien’s words are perhaps the truest words ever spoken on war. No sane person ever asks for war. However, it takes true heroes to defend freedom when wars occur.

The holiday this weekend is much more than a long weekend to enjoy picnics and friends. Memorial Day is an important reminder of those who gave their lives for their country. One of the most famous speeches in American history was given by Abraham Lincoln in 1863 honoring the over 51,000 Confederate and Union soldiers who were wounded, missing, or dead at the Battle of Gettysburg. Lincoln said, “It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the great task remaining before us — that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion — that we here highly resolve these dead shall not have died in vain; that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom, and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.” May God bless all who have worn our nation’s uniform, both living and dead.

War and After War

Marines in Iraq are still engaged in battle with the terrorists that are left. They are not all gone yet, we have not killed all of them YET. But we will or they will not be terrorists any more. Operation Matador will destroy some of these terrorists in Iraq. These are some of the same terrorists that are locked up in Gitmo. You know the terrorists that the Anti-American, Left, Liberal, Progressive, whiners are saying we have hurt their religious beliefs.

Well, I am sick and tired of these Anti-American, Left, Liberal, Progressive, whiners removing and desecrating my faith. Why these Anti-American, Left, Liberal, Progressive, whiners think they can stomp on my beliefs while blaming us for any complaint that was a lie about Great Americans flushing the Koran in a toilet in Gitmo. They should be appalled that the Government is providing any religious item to anyone let alone a damn terrorists .

I want to hear from one, JUST one Muslim that is not out to Kill me because I am a Christian. I want one Muslim to help me bring my Holy Bible into the Kingdom of the House of Saudi so I can practice my faith while I visit. oh that’s right, it is not allowed.

Justice

Fox has the report on 2nd Lt. Ilario Pantano being cleared.

“Down at the unit level, there was never a question about Ilario’s conduct and whether or not he did the right thing,” Charles Gittins, Pantano’s civilian lawyer, said. “It was up in the higher echelons. The people removed from combat situations needed to put more trust in their officers rather than assuming they’re guilty.”

I am glad to see my view was not incorrect and the Marine Corps did do the right thing in this case.

Now I hope that this does not tarnish his career in the Marine Corps or in the Civilian World.
