Doing

Being busy does not always mean real work. The object of all work is production or accomplishment and to either of these ends there must be forethought, system, planning, intelligence, and honest purpose, as well as perspiration. Seeming to do is not doing.

Yet many times I have to pretend to work when there is nothing to do, just to keep the boss happy. Smart man that Edison feller was. ;)

    What is (my) work? Nursing.
-the art and science of hands on caregiving. Very hard work…physically and emotionally. But I wouldn’t do anything else ever. No amount of money would take me away from what I do.

In my work…success is often measured in terms of how many tasks get done during each shift. We have to plan and plan well, one mistake or forgotten task can mean death.

I measure success a little differently than the darn bosses do…
Patients who are getting better; who learn to walk and talk again; who wake up from coma and start kicking and hitting; patients who go into full code status and live to talk about it…helping people heal and go home a better person than they were at admission.
