Millennium Dome

Millennium Dome

London Olympics 2012

The Dome may also be used for some events if London is selected to host the Olympic Games in 2012.

Aftermath

The Dome is now normally closed. It is still of interest to the press, the government’s difficulties in disposing of the Dome being the subject of much critical comment. The amount spent on maintaining the closed building has also been criticised. Some reports indicated the Dome was costing £1 million per month to maintain during 2001, but the government claimed these were exaggerations.

In December 2001 it was announced that Meridian Delta Ltd. had been chosen by the government to develop the Dome as a sports and entertainment complex, and to develop housing, shops and offices on 150 acres (0.6 km²) of surrounding land. Meridian Delta is backed by the American billionaire Philip Anschutz, who has interests in oil, railroads, and telecommunications (the troubled Qwest), as well as a string of sports-related investments. They intend to demolish and redevelop the site of the London Arena at Crossharbour on the Isle of Dogs as part of their scheme to establish a programme of mass entertainments in the Dome.

Philip Anschutz is an amazing man with a vision. He is a Conservative and an American.< /br>

Napolitano says she’s in charge while away?

Don’t let a little Constitution stand in your way.

Yes, says Democratic Gov. Janet Napolitano. She expects to take all the powers of her office with her when she heads to Russia on Sunday for a two-week trip, even though the Arizona Constitution says the secretary of state takes control while the governor’s gone.

No, says Republican Secretary of State Jan Brewer, an increasingly outspoken rival of the governor. Under the law, Brewer asserts, she will clearly be the acting governor for the next two weeks, whether Napolitano likes it or not. advertisement

The liberals are whining already, even when they know they are wrong.

Democratic Sen. Bill Brotherton says Brewer is correct that she is the acting governor while Napolitano is gone “with the emphasis on acting in that title.” He agreed with Davis that Napolitano quickly would be on a plane heading back to Arizona “if any shenanigans erupted.”

Lets ruin her vacation, eh.

But

Brewer says she wouldn’t use her role as acting governor “playfully.”

Republican Secretary of State Jan Brewer is a class act.
