New Technology on the way

The Marine Corps has awarded a four-year prime contract, potentially worth $125 million, to Northrop Grumman Corp. to provide new ground-based radar that consolidates four different radar mission areas into one, the company announced last week.

The cost-plus-incentive-fee contract was awarded to Northrop Grumman’s electronic systems sector in Baltimore, which designs, develops and manufactures defense and commercial electronic systems. The contract’s first increment for the system design and development phase is valued at $7.9 million.

Northrop Grumman’s team includes Sensis Corp. of East Syracuse, N.Y., CEA Technologies Inc. of Colorado Springs, Colo., Techrizon LLC of Lawton, Okla., and Caterpillar Logistics Services Inc. of Morton, Ill.

The ground-air task-oriented radar is mounted on Humvees and uses electronically scanned array technology to provide aircraft detection, tracking and engagement. It also detects and engages cruise missiles, locates ground weapons and controls air traffic.

This is going to require lots of changes to the MAGTF structure. Seems they are becoming more decentralized while becomeing more intergrated. Talk about a cool future.
