About nine militants barged into a building materials factory near Iskandariyah, 30 miles south of Baghdad, lined up all the workers and forced the six Shiite ones to identify themselves, said police Lt. Colonel Khalil Mohammed. The militants then tied up the hands of Shiites, shot them to death in front of the other workers, and fled in several stolen company cars, Mohammed said.

Hi Mike,
I think this actually is an effort by Zarqawi(Al Qada) to start a civil war between the Shiites and the Sunnis. I think the driving force behind this is not the typical Sunni. The amazing thing is that there has not (YET) been a civil war started, but this will increase pressure in the fledgling Iraqi parliment to allow militia’s ala Sadr(Shiite) to form in an effort to ‘defend’ themselves. On the surface I have no problem with the defending themselves, but we already are seeing too much impact of Sadr’s militia in Basra and this just plays into his hands. Lots of militia’s won’t prevent this type of terrorist attack and would just increase the likelihood of civil war errupting. I can see Iran quite happy with this becasue it increases the likelihood of Iraq spliting apart and sourthern Iraq falling into there hands like ripe plum….covered in oil

I think it’s another tactical mistake on the part of the bad guys. They’ve already got enough on their plate with Coalition and Iraqi troops hunting them down; attacking soft Shiite targets could only turn additional hands against them, bringing noncombattants into the fighting, either as militias or additional enlistees in the Iraqi military.
In the scenario of a militia, with the US presence there, this would be less likely to erupt into a full blown civil war — our SpecWar units would undoubtedly coordinate with them and use them as an unofficial guerilla force answerable, officially, to no one. This is not a new tactic, nor would we be the first to embrace it, and speaking for myself, I would approve 100%.
There are no more dedicated fighters than those defending their own turf and their own families.

I’ve had a theory for a while now. If the west left Muslim countries alone, they’d first start killing the minorities (First Jews, then Christians, then athiests) and then turn onto themselves. They’d get rid of the Shiites and then just kill each other off.
They seem to be fast tracking it all though.
