National Museum of the Marine Corps

Here’s another good cause to donate to. If you’re going to give to anything, why not make history a part of your causes? The Marine Corps Heritage Center is well on it’s way to completion. But they need help. Much of the funds to build this awesome center are from private sources.

QUANTICO — The massive, angled spire pierces the treeline. It is an evocative structure — like the imagery that inspired it, from the Marine Corps’ flag-raising on Iwo Jima to the way Marines point their swords and rifles skyward.
The 210-foot-tall, steel-frame spire is the signature element of the National Museum of the Marine Corps, nearing completion along Interstate 95 at Quantico.
Built with private and some public funds, the $90 million museum is scheduled to open Nov. 10, 2006, when the Marine Corps celebrates its 231st birthday.
NOTE THE OPENING DAY: NOVEMBER 10 2006 (Be there or be square)
From the MCHC website:
We cannot build this National Museum without the support of all those who recognize the historic contributions of the Marine Corps, and all who believe that its values are relevant in today’s society.
Thus, we are engaged in a major fund-raising Campaign that seeks to raise several million dollars toward the first phase of the project. Through a public-private partnership, the Marine Corps itself is contributing $13 million for planning, infrastructure, architectural development, operations and maintenance. We hope to raise the required private-sector funds in time to build and open the Museum by mid-decade.
We have a plan. Its realization depends upon the melding of strong leadership, solid organization, sound management and selfless giving from individuals and institutions.
