What is going on in Colorado?? A school bans patriotic clothing. First it’s our flag. Now it’s clothes. What next? American kids?
(CBS4) WESTMINSTER, Colo. The immigration debate and demonstrations caused a middle school in Adams County to change their dress code.
Students at Shaw Heights Middle School are no longer allowed to wear anything that’s patriotic, including camouflage pants, because they have become a political symbol for a version of patriotism.
Ummmmm….last time I looked Colorado was a part of America, and it’s not a crime to wear red, white and blue. This is stupid and immature. No clothing should be banned, even Mexican colors.
“It upsets me that we cannot support our troops, the military,” said Kirsten Golgart, an eighth grader who was told she’d be suspended if she didn’t change her clothes. “We can’t support our country. If we’re American, I think we should be proud to be an American.”
A letter went home to parents last week that explained for student safety, no clothes were allowed with political messages or flags of any sort.
Yep and I were one of these parents I would be showing up at the school wearing every piece of FLAG related clothing I could find. Student safety???? They’re Americans for chrisakes…they should be able to EAT our flag if they want. This is an excuse. It’s another freakin bandaid.
Myla Shepherd, the principal, said that tensions over the immigration issue were apparent when more than 20 students came to school wearing camouflage jackets and pants, apparently to show what they call their patriotism and American pride.
“We started seeing name calling,” Shepherd said. “Safety is my first concern so I’m going to do things to keep us from getting to a point where anybody is hurt or being suspended for fighting.”
Bullshit. You punish those who cause trouble. Not the entire school. Wimpy ass principal, holding everyone accountable for the acts of a few. What does this teach- that being a proud American is wrong???
Like I said…next they’ll be BANNING American students from schools.

It’s happening in Cali now too…three or four schoold have banned RW &B clothing, cammies and ribbons and flags- only American though.
SCREW THAT SHIT. I even heard the ACLU (choke) is standing up for free speech rights of the kids- ACLU is taking action against these schools. THAT is pathetic too see this group defend this side of the fence for once.
