Manchester-BOSTON Regional Airport???
LOL…New Hampshire people are so reluctant to CHANGE. Especially when the changes relate to anything about the state of Massachusetts. I’ve always known Manchester airport as Grenier Field, but the guy who manages the place spewed off a suggested new title that has people in an uproar.
Manchester – Don’t change the name of Manchester Airport.
That was the opinion of two-thirds of nearly 500 readers who responded to a survey on UnionLeader.com yesterday.
Airport Director Kevin Dillon said Monday that officials are considering changing the name to Manchester-Boston Regional Airport so travelers will better understand the facility’s location and proximity to major business centers.
Yesterday, Dillon backtracked, saying there is no initiative under way to change the airport’s name.“We are not moving forward with any change. It’s unfortunate this has played out in the media this way,†he said.
Many readers were adamant about not adding Boston or Massachusetts to the airport’s name.
I don’t think it’s the idea of changing the name has people upset…it’s adding BOSTON to the name.
“To add the name ‘Boston’ to Manchester Airport is ludicrous! The idiot who thought of that idea should be fired! We are not Boston and we do not want to be an appendage of Boston. Let Massachusetts do things their way, we in New Hampshire will do things our way,†wrote one person.
Others objected to linking Manchester Airport with Logan International in Boston.
“If you like to be on canceled flights, wait in long lines that don’t move, and get mistreated by disgruntled people, then Logan is the airport for you. Otherwise, fly Manchester. Manchester is what airports should strive to be,†one reader wrote.
I prefer to fly out of Manchester ANYDAY over Logan. It’s easier to get to, easier to navigate and it’s convenient. Logan is a mess. The terminals are confusing. The people who work there are RUDE and obnoxious. And one doesn’t have to park ten country miles away! LOL.
The Bay State reacts to this in typical fashion.
Massport spokeswoman Danny Levy joked that the authority was now considering demanding naming rights from Manchester — or renaming itself Boston-New York Airport once a $4 billion modernization project is done.
”But seriously,” Levy added, ”there is one Boston, one Boston Red Sox, and one Boston Logan International Airport.”
Added Seth Gitell, press secretary to Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino: ”It’s just another example of a city trying to ride on the back of a truly great city, Boston, Massachusetts. It’s the free-loader effect gone awry.”
Mayah Mumbles: ShuT Up already.
