Keep on rocking in the free world

The old coots of Rock and Roll are trying to make a comeback. Using the GWOT as a means to do so. I like Neil Young’s music but his politics SUCK and I think I need to boycott his shit from now on.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Veteran rocker Neil Young has recorded a protest album featuring an anti-Iraq war track with “a holy vow to never kill again” and a song titled “Let’s Impeach the President,” the singer said on Monday.

The 10-track set, called “Living with War,” was recorded this month by a “power trio” — electric guitar, bass and drums — plus trumpet and a 100 voices, the 60-year-old Canadian-born musician announced on his Web site.

Young’s longtime manager, Elliot Roberts, told Reuters the album, which has been the subject of Internet buzz for several days, will be played for executives at his label, Warner Music Group’s Reprise Records, on Tuesday.

“It’s devoted to the state of America, or the direction that America is moving in,” Roberts said of the album.

Just remember: We can all keep on rocking in the free world. Don’t forget who gave much of this world it’s freedom in the first place. America. FUCK YOU NEIL YOUNG. I’m happy that you’re not an American.

Pain is weakness leaving the body

Here’s a new quote:

“Pain is weakness leaving the body.”

For those getting ready for Marine boot camp, it has a meaning like nothing else.

FREDERICK — Ranking officers of the U.S. Marines Corps on Saturday wore T-shirts that boasted “Pain is weakness leaving the body.”

At a recruit competition at Fort Detrick, some future U.S. Marines got a small taste of just how much weakness will soon be exiting their bodies.

More than 100 recruits gathered to compete against each other in an annual competition to see who is the toughest future Marine. Family and friends were invited to attend the event and cheer on recruits.

In the end most of them will all be tough, that’s for sure. I’ve been to a couple (ok a couple dozen) of these pre-boot camp events and it’s fun to watch.

The new recruits were also treated to a mental and physical workout from Staff Sgt. Philip Collins Jr., a drill instructor at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in Parris Island, S.C.

“I tried to give them a good taste of what they will have to do (in boot camp),” he said.

Sgt. Collins lined up recruits and had them follow commands, do push-ups and sound-offs.

“Some of them look pretty fit,” Sgt. Collins said. “Some of them have a lot of work to do. A lot of readjusting to do too.”

Parris Island- it will be home for these recruits as they transform from boys to men. Three months of hell and pride mixed together. Three months they will never forget either. I know Marines in their 60’s and 70’s and older, who still have vivid memories of their time here…For some history about Parris Island, check out this site.

Civilian Control of Military

The anti-Rumsfeld generals have a right to their opinion. But there’s a reason the Founders provided for civilian control of the military, and a danger in military men using their presumed authority to push elected Administrations around. As for Democrats and their media allies, we can only admire their sudden new deference to the senior U.S. officer corps, which follows their strange new respect for the “intelligence community” they also once despised. U.S. military recruiters might not be welcome on Ivy League campuses, but they’re heroes when they trash the Bush Administration.

Mr. Rumsfeld’s departure has been loudly demanded in various quarters for a couple of years now, without much success, and on Friday Mr. Bush said he still has his every confidence. We suspect the President understands that most of those calling for Mr. Rumsfeld’s head are really longing for his.

These are the last two paragraphs at a WSJ opinion about The Generals. Now go read it all. Excellent.
