Gun Free and Safe

Give me one good and logical reason why we need gun control laws?
After today’s tragedy at VT, it seems pretty clear to me: HAD EVEN one student or professor had a gun of their own on them this could have turned out very differently. Someone would have shot down this gunman long before he shot down so many more.
Gun control laws won’t and obviously DON’T work. If a person wants a weapon, a gun they will get it- legally or not. Today’s events are proof we need to arm all our citizens with a gun to defend themselves.
What are we left with? A nation mourning 33 innocent people, dead in a matter of minutes, at the hand of a very sick person. And the dead, and others, had NO way to defend themselves. We won’t see any victims kin speak up for the right of Americans to own and use firearms; we will hear cries for banning all weapons though.
And in the future we will be once again shocked and saddened. By another mass shooting on some campus that is GUN FREE and SAFE.
Give me a good reason to ban guns.

Absolutely right spot on! Unfortunately, it will be the fear of guns that will… do what? Make VA Tech an even more GUN FREE & SAFE University?
I not a proponent of Guns for everyone. I know quite a number of idiots that I never want to ever see brandishing a weapon, but wouldn’t you know it those that seem to be the most dangerous handling weapons are those most afraid of them.
I was formally trained in firearm safety and close combat with, Shotgun, Pistol, and yes MP5. Not once did I shoot anything that did not represent a BAD GUY! Seriously, if a few VA Tech Babes had a conceal permit, w/ a Baretta or a S&W in there purse or backpack (that yeah they may have felt the need to carry due to walking home late at night from the library) with proper training for said permit… Well I’m quite sure there would be a different outcome today.
Of course knowing the MSM, CNN would probably spin it into “we’ll you didn’t know if he was going to shoot anyone else, you had no right!”
-Damn… Senseless!

I totally respect what you’re saying here but totally disagree.
Guns should not be given to just anyone; there are checks and balances in place. It’s obvious that guns do get into the hands of those who should least have them- look at what happened yesterday as evidence. No matter what, the killer was a mental case. People with mental illness can come across quite normal and in control. If they are receiving help, then there is a paper trail somewhere of their status.
I know quite a few idiOt rednecks who own guns. Who are as dumb as oxes…but who can shoot better than most and who can see a threat better than most.
I have been trained to use a gun. Period. The safety is part of this training. I have not been trained to ascertain whether someone is a threat to me or my family: I make that call. If someone is pointing a gun at others, they are a threat that must be stopped. It’s not that hard. Nor does it take a special degree to figure this out. You don’t have to shoot to kill a madman- although I would…others could aim to stop him/her with a shot to the kneecaps or somewhere less life threatening.
And I resent the statement about hot babes with guns in this context. That is extremely inappropriate to say at a time like this. I think we will see that at least some of the victims were indeed women, young college aged girls who were hot and who now are cold and dead. Who were never allowed to carry a gun to defend themselves against this very evil.

Raven,
I think you missed the point. First, the “Babe” reference was certainly not meant in any disrespect and my apologies if it conveyed any, not my character. I want them (all students) to have the right carry weapons with proper training in their handling! Regardless of location.
Part of the conceal training is, safety, part of MY training was assessment of threat. It is too bad that all training is not. And btw, shooting in a hostile life situation to wound or disable, is not recommended… EVER! Drop the perp. period!
I see weapons (outside of Military use) as an extremely useful SELF DEFENSE tool. Yes like any tool it can be misused as this disturbed man (and many others) prove time and time again. It is no reason to punish the rest of us in our right to defend ourselves with the available means.

JC…again it doesn’t take someone with military training to determine what a true threat really is. Come on. (LOL with all due respect). When someone comes at you or your peers or friends/family- and you have a gun- YOU SHOOT THEM. Plain and simple. Even the most elementary person KNOWS this. I want everyone to have a gun…exceptions would be those who have proven by criminal activity they don’t RATE the right. But the rest of US do.
