Nanny Statism: Tell People They are Fat! Then What??

Do we really need to develop special “tools” and programs to tell people, and kids, they are…FAT??

Guess so.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia is hoping that a little wheel can make a big difference in the state’s obesity problem. The wheel is a body mass index calculator, a low-tech tool that will be distributed to doctors across the state as part of a new effort to get physicians to recognize obesity early in their patients.

The largest provider of Medicaid coverage in the state, the health benefits group UniCare, began offering training Tuesday to doctors and their staffs in obesity prevention and body mass index measurement.

Note the key words: THE STATES PROBLEM WITH OBESITY. Since when is this a states issue?

West Virginia is the third-heaviest state in the nation. According to the state Bureau for Public Health, more than 30 percent of adults in West Virginia are obese. A national study earlier this year by the Trust For America’s Health ranked West Virginia second in the percentage of children who are obese.

Manchin has made improving the health of residents one of his primary goals. The governor has been lobbying federal officials to allow West Virginia to use some of its state Children’s Health Insurance Program money to do obesity screening for children in kindergarten and the second, fifth and eighth grades.

“That way, we can track them across a number of years and measure their progress, and our progress,” Manchin said.

Well that’s nice. What happens after this obesity screening? AND, please note here, the state wants to use money from the S CHIP program to fund this. WHAT ABOUT THE KIDS WITH NO INSURANCE?? The CHIILLDRENN???

It can be hard to tell if a child’s weight is a sign of early obesity or normal growth, said Sondike, who attended the program’s announcement.

“Kids can grow into their weight,” he said. “But if there is a risk of obesity, it’s a lot easier to stop it when they’re children than when they’re adults.”

At the training sessions, doctors will be given calculation wheels along with charts from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to help interpret the results.

Sondike said that while many doctors are aware of BMI calculations, one goal of the training is to make physicians think of it as a standard measurement for patients, like weight or blood pressure.

So we don’t really know if the fat kids are really fat. We do know children tend to carry their baby fat well into their teen yrs. Again I ask: What happens after this obesity screening?

For state government, the concern is the health of its residents, but it also a matter of dollars and cents. The state’s Medicaid agency spends about $100 million on obesity-related costs annually, while obesity cost the state Public Employees Health Insurance agency $93 million last year, about 18 percent of its budget.

Yep…and you know what? You can lead a horse to a water pond but you can’t force it to drink. You can tell people, including kids, they are fat but it won’t make them change their eating/exercise habits IF THEY DON’T WANT to change.

Most overweight people KNOW they have a problem…some choose to do something about and others do not. We cannot mandate or force them to follow our ideals of health and wellness.

These programs are a total waste of money.

Dennis The Menice Knows all About Mental Health

BWAHAHAH!!

Dennis the Menace Said:

PHILADELPHIA — Democratic presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich questioned President Bush’s mental health in light of comments he made about a nuclear Iran precipitating World War III.

“I seriously believe we have to start asking questions about his mental health,” Kucinich, an Ohio congressman, said in an interview with The Philadelphia Inquirer’s editorial board on Tuesday. “There’s something wrong. He does not seem to understand his words have real impact.”

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Dennis the Menace also:

“…saw a gigantic triangular craft, silent, and observing him. It hovered for about ten minutes or so, and sped away with a speed he couldn’t comprehend. He felt a connection in his heart and heard directions in his mind.”

Now who is perhaps having mental health issues here? Hmm….

An Open Letter to Code Pink

WOW, the leftists in Berkeley published a letter from a Marine

The Berkeley Daily Planet

Commentary: An Open Letter to Code Pink

By Richard Lund
While the protest that you staged in front of my office on Wednesday, Sept. 26th, was an exercise of your constitutional rights, the messages that you left behind were insulting, untrue, and ultimately misdirected. Additionally, from the comments quoted in the Berkeley Daily Planet article, it is clear that you have no idea what it is that I do here. Given that I was unaware of your planned protest, I was unable to contest your claims in person, so I will therefore address them here.

First, a little bit about who I am: I am a Marine captain with over eight years of service as a commissioned officer. I flew transport helicopters for most of my time in the Marine Corps before requesting orders to come here. Currently, I am the officer selection officer for the northern Bay Area. My job is to recruit, interview, screen, and evaluate college students and college graduates that show an interest in becoming officers in the Marine Corps. Once they’ve committed to pursuing this program, I help them apply, and if selected, I help them prepare for the rigors of Officer Candidate School and for the challenges of life as a Marine officer. To be eligible for my programs, you have to be either a full-time college student or a college graduate. I don’t pull anyone out of school, and high school students are not eligible.

I moved my office to Berkeley in December of last year. Previously, it was located in an old federal building in Alameda. That building was due to be torn down and I had to find a new location. I choose our new site because of its proximity to UC Berkeley and to the BART station. Most of the candidates in my program either go to Cal or to one of the schools in San Francisco, the East Bay, or the North Bay. Logistically, the Shattuck Square location was the most convenient for them.

Next, you claim that I lie. I have never, and will never, lie to any individual that shows an interest in my programs. I am upfront with everything that is involved at every step of the way and I go out of my way to ensure that they know what to expect when they apply. I tell them that this is not an easy path. I tell them that leading Marines requires a great deal of self-sacrifice. I tell them that, should they succeed in their quest to become a Marine officer, they will almost certainly go to Iraq. In the future, if you plan to attack my integrity, please have the courtesy to explain to me specifically the instances in which you think that I lied.

Next, scrawled across the doorway to my office, you wrote, “Recruiters are Traitors.” Please explain this one. How exactly am I a traitor? Was I a traitor when I joined the Marine Corps all those years ago? Is every Marine, therefore, a traitor? Was I a traitor during my two stints in Iraq? Was I a traitor when I was delivering humanitarian aid to the victims of the tsunami in Sumatra? Or do you only consider me a traitor while I am on this job? The fact is, recruitment is and always has been a part of maintaining any military organization. In fact, recruitment is a necessity of any large organization. Large corporations have employees that recruit full-time. Even you, I’m sure, must expend some effort to recruit for Code Pink. So what, exactly, is it that makes me a traitor?

The fact is this: any independent nation must maintain a military (or be allied with those who do) to ensure the safety and security of its citizens. Regardless of what your opinions are of the current administration or the current conflict in Iraq, the U.S. military will be needed again in the future. If your counter-recruitment efforts are ultimately successful, who will defend us if we are directly attacked again as we were at Pearl Harbor? Who would respond if a future terrorist attack targets the Golden Gate Bridge, the BART system, or the UC Berkeley clock tower? And, to address the most hypocritical stance that your organization takes on its website, where would the peace keeping force come from that you advocate sending to Darfur?

Finally, I believe that your efforts in protesting my office are misdirected. I agree that your stated goals of peace and social justice are worthy ones. War is a terrible thing that should only be undertaken in the most dire, extreme, and necessary of circumstances. However, war is made by politicians. The conflict in Iraq was ordered by the president and authorized by Congress. They are the ones who have the power to change the policy in Iraq, not members of the military. We execute policy to the best of our ability and to the best of our human capacity. Protesting in front of my office may be an easy way to get your organization in the headlines of local papers, but it doesn’t further any of your stated goals.

To conclude, I don’t consider myself a “recruiter.” I am a Marine who happens to be on recruiting duty. As such, I conduct myself in accordance with our core values of honor, courage, and commitment. I will never sacrifice my honor by lying to anyone that walks into my office. I will never forsake the courage that it takes to restrain myself in the face of insulting and libelous labels like liar and traitor. And, most importantly, I will never waver from my commitment to helping individuals who desire to serve their country as officers in the Marine Corps.

Captain Richard Lund is the United States Marine Corps’ officer selection officer for the northern Bay Area.

And he was right on the money showing them how stupid and closed minded they really are.

Semper Fi Captain  Lund!

Emotional appeal?

The differences between the wako left and the right.

Internal Dem memo faults party message

By Mike Soraghan

October 26, 2007

Democrats are losing the battle for voters’ hearts because the party’s message lacks emotional appeal, according to a widely circulated critique of House Democratic communications strategy.

“Our message sounds like an audit report on defense logistics,” wrote Dave Helfert, a former Appropriations spokesman who now works for Rep. Neil Abercrombie (D-Hawaii). “Why are we defending [the State Children’s Health Insurance Program] instead of advocating a ‘Healthy Kids’ plan?”

Not that the Republicans have any ability. they are wrong here too.

Republicans have done a better job by developing poll data into focus group-tested messages like “culture of life” and “defending marriage,” along with attacks like “cut and run” and “plan for surrender” in Iraq, he argued.

I don’t trust any (I do mean any) politician. they all suck and lie. the question seems to be, who is the better liar?

Happy Birthday Hillary: Now Answer Some Questions

Many people are wondering just what is going on with Hillary Clinton’s campaign donations. At best it’s questionable, at worst some say she is directly involved with fraudulent fund raising activities. Now we have another venue at our disposal and perhaps it will shed more light on this issue.

WASHINGTON —
One gift that Hillary Clinton is unlikely to enjoy on her 60th birthday Friday is the premiere of “Hillary Uncensored,” a scathing documentary whose 13-minute trailer has been No. 1 on Google Video since Oct. 10, with more than 1.1 million views to date.

The film’s first full-length showing is scheduled for Friday night at Harvard University, followed by viewings at universities through the weekend and a wrap Tuesday at the Metropolitan Club in New York City.

Among the allegations summarized in the documentary:

— Bill and Hillary Clinton solicited cash from Peter F. Paul, an international lawyer and businessman, even after Hillary Clinton’s campaign manager told The Washington Post she would not take money from him;

— FBI agents and U.S. attorneys colluded with the Clintons to keep Paul, who was convicted of cocaine possession and fraud, tangled up in the criminal courts for years;

— The Clintons later made sure Paul was kept in a Brazilian prison for 25 months, including 58 days in a maximum security cellblock nicknamed the “Corridor of Death,” while the Justice Department waited to extradite him;

— Hillary Clinton still hasn’t filed reports to the FEC enumerating Paul’s excessive contributions to her 2000 Senate campaign.

I’ve seen the trailer and hope to see the entire film.

Douglas Cogan, a businessman-turned-associate producer and researcher for the film, said he’s made it his mission to expose what he calls “the greatest campaign finance fraud that ever has been committed.”

The Clintons think “they are truly above the law,” Cogan said. “My country has never seen anyone like Hillary Rodham Clinton.”

The allegations in the film are not new, although much of the video is. The film resurrects claims made by the thrice-convicted Paul that he unwittingly agreed to violate election-funding laws in exchange for a pledge from Bill Clinton to work with him in his new venture, Stan Lee Media, after Clinton left the presidency.

The documentary revisits Paul’s claim that, in exchange for Bill Clinton’s promise to promote Stan Lee Media overseas, for which Paul said he was willing to pay $17 million, he also agreed to produce an August 2000 fundraising gala in Hollywood for Hillary Clinton’s 2000 New York Senate campaign.

“My interest in supporting Hillary Clinton was specifically to hire Bill Clinton,” Paul told FOXNews.com in a telephone interview, noting that Clinton’s 2000 Senate campaign “concocted” the whole idea of the fundraiser.

Paul said he believed that in exchange for organizing the gala, “I had accomplished the hiring of the president of the United States to work with me when he left the White House.”

The gala cost $1.2 million, which was under-reported to the Federal Election Commission and led to the arrest of Clinton’s then-Senate campaign fundraising chief, David Rosen.

Rosen was found not guilty; a co-host of the gala, Aaron Tonken, was sentenced in a separate case to more than five years in prison for misappropriating funds for charity to pay for fundraisers featuring Hollywood celebrities.

There are more questions than answers about the Clintons fund raising tactics. In this case they are trying to force Hillary to come forth and answer some of these questions. So far she has been above the law. How can people extend their vote to a person with such questionable ethics? Why should we care? Does it matter that the person holding the highest ratings in the field of candidates for the party of the people, Democrats, is perhaps a law breaker? And do Democrats care anymore?

Nightmare Act Dead, Once Again

The reincarnation of the Dream Act has ended. Once again, for now. Expect it to come back to haunt us soon enough.

Via Hot Air:

Quick and easy scan of Democrats voting against: Baucus, Byrd, Conrad, Dorgan, Landrieu, Pryor, Tester, and good ol’ McCaskill, whose objections to amnesty evidently don’t end at labor concerns. Republicans voting for: Bennett, Coleman, Collins, our friend Larry Craig, Hagel, Hatch, Hutchison, Lott, Lugar, “Amnesty Mel” Martinez, Snowe, and Sam Brownback, who was free to show his true colors today sans 11th-hour switch.

Remember the RINOS.

From the AP:

WASHINGTON (AP) - Legislation to give some children of illegal immigrants a path toward legality failed a crucial Senate vote Wednesday, probably dooming any chance of major changes to the immigration system this year.

Supporters needed to 60 votes to advance the proposal, but the tally was 52-44. The measure would have allowed illegal immigrants who plan to attend college or join the military, and who came to the United States with their families before they turned 16, to move toward legality.

The Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act - DREAM ACT for short - was a popular part of a broad immigration plan that would have legalized as many as 12 million unlawful immigrants and fortified the border.

That larger bill failed in the Senate in June. But proponents of the DREAM Act wanted to see if it would pass on its own.

“Children should not be penalized for the actions of their parents,” said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev.

“What crime did these children commit?” added Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., the Senate’s No. 2 Democrat. “They committed the crime of obeying their parents and following their parents to this country. Do you think there was a vote in the household about their future? I don’t think so.”

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said by blocking the bill, “Senate Republicans prevented a critical first step to address our nation’s broken immigration system.”

Ahh yes, let’s fix the very broken system by saying it’s all for the children. Pfft. While I do have some sympathy for the kids, I have none for their parents, who are criminals and who made choices that led to this status. They use their children as pawns in this issue, and to me, that is the worst thing a parent can do. Never mind this Act would have been the bloodline that feeds many future generations of parasite. The Republicans did the right thing, for once!

You never stop being a Marine

More living history, US Marine style.

They know he wears two hearing aids, thanks to the 105mm howitzer he manned. They know he served in the U.S. Marine Corps and made corporal. They know he has a basement room full of memorabilia after four major battles, including Saipan and Iwo Jima.

“They’d ask every once in a while, but then they’d get a dubious look on their face,” said Bien, 82, of Belle-ville. “They know some of it. I don’t think they know the depth of it.”

Four campaigns in 13 months — Roi-Namur, Saipan, Tinian and Iwo Jima. You might think Iwo Jima was the battle that hit Bien hardest, but it was Saipan.
[...]
He and a buddy were ordered to dig a foxhole in the rain. They piled up sandbags for the walls, then decided to put on a roof of steel bars, mesh, canvas and several inches of sand to keep dry.

That night, a 75mm mortar round landed on the roof.

“We were asleep and it turned us both over. That roof saved us,” he said.

After Iwo Jima, the 4th Division was preparing for the invasion of Japan. Bien would have gone into Tokyo Bay several days after the invasion started to the south.

“Then Harry dropped the A bomb,” Bien said. “I stayed drunk for three or four days.”

He came home and drank away another $300 he got from the state. Then he became a carpenter, married the girl across the street and had six children.
[...]
“You never stop being a Marine,” he said. “I’m still a Marine.”

Dream Act Nightmare Continues

Amnesty is sneaking up again.

Michelle Malkin:

Fresh off the S-CHIP debacle and their FISA retreat, the Dems look to the illegal alien tuition subsidy legislation known as the DREAM Act for redemption.

Time to take some action folks!

(October 22) By invoking Senate Rule XIV on S. 2205, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has paved the way for prompt (and ill-advised) floor action on the measure, Assistant Majority Leader Dick Durbin’s (D-Ill.) new stand-alone DREAM Act amnesty bill. The procedural move, made late last week, means that the DREAM Act may be brought to the Senate floor as early as Tuesday (October 23) without ever having been considered in committee.

S. 2205, which is cosponsored by long-tenured Republicans Chuck Hagel (R-Neb.) and Dick Lugar (R-Ind.), is, essentially, the same amnesty offered up for consideration by Durbin as an amendment (SA 2919) to H.R. 1585, the Defense Department (DoD) authorization bill for fiscal year 2008. The Senate passed that bill October 1 without ever taking up the DREAM Act amendment or amendments concerning increased worker importation.

In this most recent iteration, the DREAM Act authorizes DHS to cancel removal for, or adjust to lawful permanent resident status (in other words, grant amnesty to), an alien who is inadmissible or deportable in cases where the alien demonstrated that he/she:

* has maintained continuous presence in the United States for five years and was not yet 16 years old upon initial entry, but is no older than 30 years of age;
* is of “good moral character” and is not inadmissible or deportable on certain criminal grounds or on the basis of being a risk to national security; and
* has been admitted to an institution of higher education, has attained a high school diploma, or has obtained a GED in the United States.

This ill-conceived proposal, which would grant amnesty to illegal aliens who satisfy these criteria as of enactment, also would be a rolling amnesty drawing more illegal aliens here in the future to apply for amnesty.

First off, we all know these illegals are NOT of good moral character- their mere presence here in the US shows us they have NO MORALS. Breaking laws is unethical…AND don’t be fooled by this rhetoric sounding as though it’s for the children. Bullshit. This faulty legislation is amnesty for all illegal immigrants and those who wish to USE the children in the game.

This latter revision would narrow, but would not close, a gaping loophole in this amnesty because any illegal alien up to age 30 can still walk into any U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services office, declare that he is eligible, and be granted amnesty with minimal documentation of eligibility. That 30-year-old could claim that he illegally entered the United States when he was 15, but there is no requirement that the alien prove that he entered the United States at the claimed time by providing particular documents. The proposal would merely require him to “demonstrate” that he is eligible, which in practice could mean simply making a sworn statement to that effect. Thus, it would be an invitation for just about every illegal alien 30 and under to fraudulently claim the amnesty.

The Lemoncrats (TM) are trying to sneak this into vote as soon as tomorrow. We must counter this with phone calls to our elected reps ASAP.

Capitol switchboard - 202-224-3121.
NOW. And first thing in the morning. Let them know how you feel.

Rockies World Series Ticket Onsale

This morning, after more than 8.5 million hits on the Colorado Rockies website, Paciolan (Pack-ee-o-lan), Major League Baseball’s ticket vendor, experienced a system wide outage that impacted all of its North American customers. As a result, the Colorado Rockies have suspended the sale of 2007 World Series tickets scheduled to be played at Coors Field.

“It’s been an extremely frustrating morning for our fans and the entire Rockies’ organization,” said Keli McGregor, Rockies’ team president. “We are working diligently with Major League Baseball and Paciolan to resolve the issues impacting online ticket sales for the 2007 World Series.”

Although some ticket transactions (less than 500 seats) did take place this morning, virtually the entire allotment for all three games of the World Series scheduled for Coors Field remains intact. A plan for the sale of the available World Series tickets will be announced as soon as the details are available.

Eat Crow Rockies!!

Red Sox Nation meets the Rockies. Heh.

The Sox won their 12th American League pennant by beating the Cleveland Indians by the deceptive score of 11-2, before a crowd of 37,165 at Fenway Park, the first congregation since 1986 with the chance to celebrate a championship at home. The Sox, who broke open last night’s game with eight runs in their last two at-bats, come back to Fenway Park to open the 103d World Series Wednesday night against the Colorado Rockies, the National League champions who have won 10 straight and 21 of 22.

I missed most the game last night- I was working. My daughters were at Fenway though. And they will be going to all the World Series games (thanks to their Dad). This coming Thursday they are traveling out to Denver and will be staying with their cousin, who is displaced member of the Red Sox Nation. After the Sox beat the Rockies, maybe they’ll meet up with Michael to make him eat crow ball park hawt dogs?? LOL!!
