DON’T TREAD ON ME: A recalcitrant NH Citizens Speaks
Mar 4th 2008RavenPolitics & Raven
Here in New Hampshire we have a saying, that is often quoted by many:
DON’T TREAD ON ME.
These words go back many decades.
Well the federal government is trying to tread on NH, trying to take away freedom with petty threats and fear mongering.
WASHINGTON — Homeland Security officials are pushing recalcitrant states to adopt stricter driver’s license standards to end a standoff that could disrupt domestic air travel.
States have less than a month to send a letter to the Homeland Security Department seeking an extension to comply with the Real ID law passed following the 2001 terror attacks. Some states have resisted, saying it is costly, impractical and an invasion of privacy.
Four states — Maine, Montana, New Hampshire and South Carolina — have yet to seek an extension.
WTF is this? —> recalcitrant < ---????
Recalcitrant?? Like we’re just being naughty and non compliant. Like little children.
No. This is about each state’s right to buck the federal government over-reaching rulings and stupid ideas.
..such as this REAL ID ACT bulloney. Make no mistake about this- it’s a dumb idea and it won’t prevent attacks. The thought is if every American or those who have the rights of American citizens would be forced to carry upon them an ID that uses federal guildlines for verifying the documents used to get the ID. Each state currently has it’s own requirements for ID’s- and some claim this makes it easier for terrorists to get state issued ID’s. Perhaps this is true. Having 50 different sets of requirements is confusing for sure…but hey, the federal government has endless resources to keep it all straight.
I got news for people:
ANYONE can get a fake birth certificate, online, for about 20.00, that not only looks and feels real, but is notarized and signed and sealed and delivered to any address…anyone, including terrorists, can get this and every other document they want, or need, to get the so called REAL ID. Thus, making the entire REAL ID mantra not as real as the DHS wants everyone to believe.
Since the REAL ID only applies to US territories, the threat of flight delays and problems is overblown. I would proudly go through secondary screening, if my federal government requires this, in order to get on a domestic flight. Of course this would be another huge waste of money, this second line bullshit. The DHS loves wasting money.
Another quote we New Hampshire people like:
LIVE FREE OR DIE.
Why should NH citizens, and those of ALL states, have to comply with stupid federal government laws that do nothing to protect the people? Why can’t the federal government just do the right thing (and that would be to subject those who fit the profile of our known terrorists) to more scrutiny? Why do law abiding, tax paying decent people have to pay the price for an overly politically correct government?

Hi. I agree with you.
Also, here’s something you should be aware of. The income tax mongers.
GSFTC has succeeded in infiltrating 89 town meetings and have had various warrant articles placed on the ballot. Some towns may have amended the article that will appear on the ballot to reverse the meaning so read carefully before you vote.
Basically these articles would like you reject the Pledge by discouraging candidates from taking it or not voting for candidates who have taken it so they can leave the dialog open for more discussion about ‘fairer’ taxes. This is a non-binding resolution. But it is the first step in the demonization of the Pledge and those who take it, under the premise that they are preventing the legislature from considering more ‘fair’ ways of taxation.
You cannot legislate away the ‘free speech’ of candidates. Candidates will continue to take the pledge as offered by CNHT as seen here: (and hopefully at our annual picnic on July 5t, 2008)
http://www.cnht.org/images/pledge.jpg
Even Governor Lynch signed our Pledge.
Taking the Pledge simply means that fiscally responsible legislators promise to reject any broad-based new tax such as a sales or income tax. Along with the goal of getting candidates to reject the Pledge, the articles may even be amended to specifically state the consideration of an income or sales tax.
Instead of asking for yet another tax, and that is just what this is, why aren’t these ‘fairness’ crusaders of the deceptively named “Granite State Fair Tax Coalition” instructing people on how to go to their town meetings and vote NO on excessive spending? Why are they instead bent on DEFEATING SB2 - secret ballot voting? Makes no sense.
Accusing Pledge-takers of keeping taxes high, is an unproven foregone conclusion and an insult.
Studies such as the Yankee Institute of Connecticut’s “Fifteen Years of Folly” proved that the added burden of a state income and sales tax made NO significant impact on the lowering of property taxes.

Can GSFTC shows us even ONE document that proves otherwise? No.
Finally, GSFTC is NOT a bona-fide ‘grassroots’ group but a well-funded branch of a larger cabal of groups influenced by national and international outside interests, who are themselves tax-exempt. Because of who they are, they DO NOT belong in town meetings looking to pave the way for more taxation at the state level, even if this were an appropriate place to lobby for such taxes.
CNHT is a true user-driven NH-only taxpayer advocacy group that gets no outside funding or influence. It’s truly grassroots and funded by small donors in the state of NH.
You can explore GSFTC’s list of supporting groups here:
http://www.nhfairtax.org/aboutus/organizations.php
The last link on that page should be updated to: http://www.uuactionnetworknh.org/
Kick these outsiders out and vote NO on their silly warrant articles if they suggest the rejection of the Pledge. The Pledge is our NH Advantage.

UUugh I know about the tax warriors too! The Granite State Fair Tax Coalition is anything but fair…and I hope no one falls for their crap at those town meetings, my town being one of them. My selectmen are aware of this “game” as well and have mentioned it several times…most the people in my town wholesale reject ANY new taxes- regardless of the potential upgrading of “services” promised. We’re close to the MA border and see the results of high taxed communities - and the poor quality schools and town services paid for by taxes.
The problem is as more and more leftards move into NH, esp those from the western states, we’re perhaps going to see this change. MA transports come here to get AWAY from taxes, contrary to popular opinion. It’s those from further west who are ruining out state.
Thanks for the comment!
