Sick of "Inherited"

Someone emailed this to me

The Washington Post babbled again today about Obama inheriting a huge deficit from Bush, blah blah blah.

Amazingly enough, a lot of people continue to swallow this nonsense.

So once more, let’s try a short civics lesson.

Budgets do not come from the White House.  They come from Congress, and the party that controlled Congress since January 2007 is the Democratic Party.  They controlled the budget process for FY 2008 and FY 2009, as well as FY 2010 and FY 2011.  In that first year, they had to contend with George Bush, which caused them to compromise on spending, when Bush somewhat belatedly got tough on spending increases.  For FY 2009, though, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid bypassed George Bush entirely, passing continuing resolutions to keep government running until Barack Obama could take office.  At that time, they passed a massive omnibus spending bill to complete the FY 2009 budgets. And where was Barack Obama during this time?  He was a member of that very Congress that passed all of these massive spending bills, and he signed the omnibus bill as President to complete FY 2009. Let’s remember what the deficits looked like during that period:

If the Democrats inherited any deficit, it was the FY 2007 deficit, the last of the Republican budgets.  That deficit was the lowest in five years, and the fourth straight decline in deficit spending.  After that, Democrats in Congress took control of spending, and that includes Barack Obama, who voted for the budgets.  If Obama inherited anything, he inherited it from himself. In a nutshell,  what Obama is saying is HE inherited a deficit that HE voted for and then HE voted to expand that deficit four-fold since January 20th.

Any questions about who inherited what?

Your knowledge of this one is incredibly superficial. The Bush 10 year tax cut of 2001 removed $1.35 trillion from the economy. His second tax cut of 2003 was a further 10-year, $350 billion package. At the end of his administration a 1/2 trillion dollar budget surplus becomes a 1.5 trillion dollar deficit.

The guy racked up more debt than all of the other presidents in the hsitory of the republic combined.

Almost all of the tax cuts were directed at the wealthiest citizens and they had absolutely no benefit to the economy at all GDP may just be starting to climb to where it was at the end of the 90’s.

10 years of destructive policies can’t be fixed in 12 months. The destruction that the idiot-in-chief wrought may take still be felt by our grand children.

On top of that you have a new policy forced on the Senate by the republicans where the majority now needs 60 votes to get ANYTHING passed. Without those 60 votes and facing a republican party that votes no on everything, the goverment becomes disfunctional.

Obama has co-opted many policies of the republicans only to have them vote no anyway (deficit commission, no single payer, no public option, tax cuts).

Yep, reality is hard thing to come to terms with isn’t it ?

    Reality Polaris?
I think you may be one of those that couldn’t understand reality if it hit you in the ass like Barry Bonds swingin’ for the fences.
Name one thing Obama has done to reduce the deficit, please.
    Answer?
    You can’t.
(Obama just signed a document increasing our debt limit to $14.3 TRILLION, folks.
    And that is REALITY.
